Our committees help our board members complete the chapter’s objectives through events, volunteering, or development. The $24 million project will be completed in four phases, with 16 Habitat townhomes planned for completion in 2025 and the remaining units 2026. This year is no different, and Charlotte is hosting 2023's Habitat for Humanity International’s Carter Work Project, building housing for 39 families at a development that was once the site of Plato Price School, which served Black families in Charlotte until 1966. As a fundraising arm of Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region, proceeds from the six Charlotte Region ReStore locations and our online store are used to help build and repair homes for hard-working families right here in our community. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states and in more than 70 countries around the world. Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward this vision by building and improving homes in partnership with individuals and families in need of a decent and affordable place to live.

By working with us from beginning to end, we can help prospective individuals prepare for the various responsibilities of homeownership, including learning about personal finances, mortgages, maintenance and upkeep of homes, and much more. For decades, Habitat for Humanity Charlotte Region has worked to help fill the gap and build or rehab homes to create more affordable housing here. In many locations, Habitat for Humanity operates ReStores, which sell reusable and surplus building materials, furniture and appliances to the public. Carya Pond will be made up of 40 Habitat units and 43 units to be sold on the open market, "symbolizing a blend of Habitat's homeownership mission and market-rate housing," the organization said. “By combining our resources with the expertise of Kingdom Development Partners and Harmon Construction, we can create a vibrant community in addition to building homes and hope,” Belcher said. Habitat partners with the City of Charlotte as an advocate for affordable housing and on numerous housing projects, the most recent of which is The Meadows at Plato Price development. For its work the city collaborates with nonprofits, housing developers, and community partners using The Housing Charlotte Framework. The Framework’s goal is to expand access to opportunity through housing investments using funds from the City’s Housing Trust Fund.

Since launching the Cars for Homes national vehicle donation program in 2005, Habitat for Humanity has accepted over 100,000 vehicles for reselling or recycling, raising more than $30 million in the last 5 years alone. If we purchase the home, HCR renovates it and sells it to another qualified moderate-income homebuyer. This includes any other protected classification that may be established by federal, state, or local laws and ordinances.
